Cone Beam CT

South West Radiology is proud to offer Cone Beam CT, providing crystal-clear 3D images for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

What is CBCT

Cone Beam CT (CBCT) is a medical imaging technique that provides detailed 3D images of a patient’s anatomy. CBCT works by rotating a cone-shaped X-ray beam around the patient to create 3D images. It’s known for its high resolution and reduced radiation exposure.

Why Choose Cone Beam CT at South West Radiology?

High-resolution 3D imaging, Minimal radiation exposure, Faster scans for quicker results, Perfect for dental, ENT, orthopaedic, and more, Unmatched diagnostic accuracy.

Preparation:

Kindly ensure you have your referral (a letter from your doctor or dentist) and your Medicare and/or Pension Health Care card when attending your appointment. It’s crucial to bring all prior imaging relevant to the scanned region.
No appointment is needed for the CBVT, and there is no specific preparation except for removing any jewellery from the head and neck area before the scan.

Scanning

The scan is performed with you standing. The radiographer will assist you in positioning correctly, emphasizing the importance of remaining perfectly still during the examination. You will receive instructions to rest your chin on a designated rest, bite onto a small, sterile piece, and hold onto the handle. The machine rotates around your head, completing the entire process in under a minute.

We are committed to providing comprehensive and affordable Cone Beam CT to our patients.

FAQs! Need Help?

Unlike traditional CT scans that use a fan-shaped beam, CBCT utilizes a cone-shaped beam. This allows for focused imaging of specific areas, reducing radiation exposure and providing high-resolution images of targeted regions.
CBCT is frequently used in dentistry for detailed imaging of the teeth, jaw, and facial structures. It is also employed in orthopedics, ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) examinations, and certain surgical planning scenarios.
Yes, CBCT is generally considered safe. The radiation exposure is lower compared to traditional CT scans, and the benefits of obtaining detailed 3D images often outweigh the risks. However, pregnant individuals should inform their healthcare provider before undergoing CBCT.
The duration of a CBCT scan varies depending on the area being imaged. However, in general, the procedure is quick and typically takes only a few minutes.
CBCT scans are non-invasive, and side effects are rare. Some patients may experience minor discomfort due to the positioning required, but this is usually temporary.
While CBCT is generally safe, certain individuals, such as pregnant women, should inform their healthcare provider before the scan. The decision to undergo CBCT is made on a case-by-case basis, considering the potential benefits and risks.
The frequency of CBCT imaging depends on the individual's medical needs. It is typically not performed as a routine screening but rather based on specific diagnostic or treatment requirements.
It is the radiographer’s duty to perform the test and ensure the images are of high quality for the radiologist (specialist) to interpret them.
